Ultram – types of pain managed

There are different classifications of pain with regard to its character and origin. However, the main characteristic of pain is where it is registered, and according to this factor there are three main types of pain: somatic, visceral and neuropathic. All three types can be both acute and chronic, which reflects the time duration of painful sensations. Each of the pain types has particular sensations associated with it and although pain in general is described as the feeling of discomfort the way it is manifested varies significantly depending on pain type. And of course, each type of pain requires different methods of pain management to be employed.

Somatic Pain

Somatic pain is quite a common type of pain that is triggered by nerve endings in the skin and the muscular-skeletal system. It is usually described as a burning, shooting or stinging sensation that has a very precise location. Somatic pain is usually caused by trauma, inflammation, various disorders, muscle spasms and other factors. It can be both acute and chronic. Somatic pain management is rather simple and involves a wide range of painkiller and anti-inflammatory meds from Ultram to ibuprofen and even aspirin.

Visceral Pain

Viscera refers to the inner cavity in the body where all internal organs are located. And as the name suggests, visceral pain is the type of pain experienced in the interior of the body, namely in different organs. It's usually different from somatic pain in sensations being more dull and less precisely located., squeezing and pressure-like in most cases. There are different causes behind visceral pain mostly linked to particular disorders with internal organs such as infections, inflammation, constipation and others. This pain type is usually accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, nausea, dizziness and spasms. Visceral pain usually requires more potent painkillers such as Ultram for pain management and can also be relieved with anti-inflammatory drugs in some cases.

Neuropathic Pain

This is the rarest and most difficult type of pain to deal with. Neuropathic pain is caused by disorders or damaged to the nervous system that transmits nerve pain signals to the brain. It's usually hard or impossible to locate the actual zone of damage because the painful sensations can be felt in a completely different part of the body. This type of pain is primarily described as a stinging, burning sensation that can happen just at any time. Neuropathic pain is hard to deal with since it's hard to locate the actual reason and very few analgesics can actually relieve it. Ultram is one of these medications.
